Saddhu's are ascetic Hindu monks; who give up attachments and desires...they are like wandering, homeless philosophers. I met Ashutosh smoking chillum in an ashram in Gujarat, India 2005.

Around Trichur in South India they have a festival season, where people bang drums, blow horns and crash cymbals till sunrise. The music starts out teasingly slow, and three hours later climaxs with a beat similar to hardcore techno. It drops back into the slowest beat, and builds up again; night after night. The best way to know where the next one is, is to follow the elephant crew, and this oil pastel drawing is of that. 2004 (<a href=click here for video clip)"/>
